4th Annual Polar Bear Swim 1/13/2007 Another successful swim for The Portsmouth Rotary Club was held on January 13, 2007 in New Castle. This year's swim was dedicated to Rotarian Frank Butterworth who passed away recently. As an 84 year old, Frank braved 10 degree weather to participate in the first annual Polar Bear Swim in 2004, wearing his signature bow tie and top hat. This year the swimmers wore bow ties to honor Frank and many of his grandchildren swam to honor his memory. The weather for the 4th annual swim was almost 50 degrees.  View

Second Annual Polar Bear Swim 1/15/2005 The air was 25 degrees and the Atlantic at about 40 degrees - perfect weather for our second annual Polar Bear Swim. With a minimum sponsorship of $250 per participant, all of it going to charity, about 30 locals stripped down to Speedos, bikinis, shorts and other swim gear to take an icy dip. Onlookers numbered in the dozens, all of them in winter layers and appropriately capped and gloved.  View
First Annual Portsmouth Polar Bear Swim 1/10/2004 The event was held at New Castle Common near Portsmouth. It was a sunny but cold day with the air temp hovering at 9 degrees F and the water a balmy 41 degrees F. The swim raised over $14,000 for charity and we are already thinking about how to make the 2005 Polar Bear Swim bigger and better. Hope you'll join us for the fun !!  View
