Welcome to the Rotary Club of Portsmouth!
The Portsmouth Rotary Club was chartered in 1923 and is one of the largest Rotary Clubs in the Northeast.
Our membership is comprised of business, professional and community leaders who strive to exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” in their daily lives.
We are an active group engaged in many local as well as international projects that offer our members opportunities to reach out to those who are in need.
Our service to the local community consists of awards to non profits, schools, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior citizens, at risk children and the sick and needy. We organize hands on projects that have cleared parks, landscaped yards, built structures, remodeled child care facilities and replaced windows. We have a wonderful scholarship program for our graduating seniors going on to higher education. We are currently financing energy audits for non profits, supporting non alcoholic graduation parties and we have collected hundreds of pounds of food and personal supplies for the needy.
We have many youth services programs, a dictionary project for third graders and chess set donations for lower school students. We have leadership and mentoring programs for our high school students and opportunities for youth exchange programs all over the world.
Internationally we have brought much needed medical services around the world as well as projects that bring clean water to undeveloped areas in other countries. We are actively involved in Polio Plus, a world wide project to eradicate polio. The Bill Gates Foundation is supporting our efforts with millions of dollars in matching grant funds to make sure polio is no longer a threat anywhere in the world.
We also have a strong fellowship component amongst our members. We enjoy working, playing and laughing together and forming new friendships that will last forever. The self satisfaction one can achieve when presented with the opportunities Rotary can offer is endless. Many of our members have found richer and more meaningful lives through membership in our club.
