National Immunization Days - Ethiopia

I started my National Immunization Day(NID) experience in 2007 when I traveled to Harrar, Ethiopia, a city over 1000 years old surrounded completely by a wall with seven gates of entry.

Our group of Rotarians from Seattle, Hawaii, Canada, Portsmouth,NH., and S. Portland, Me. went door to door in this city giving the two drops of polio vaccine that is making it possible for Rotary and its partners to eradicate Polio from the earth. Because of this experience , I returned to other parts of Ethiopia in 2008, and 2009 on NIDs. After the group returned from this years trip they announced that this may be the last NID needed in Ethiopia because it has been Polio free.
