Today’s program was a real joke…literally. More on that later. Bob Field started us off with a history lesson – a conclusion to the lesson he began at our 90th birthday party. Here are some highlights:

-          The admission of women in 1988 gave us a real “run for our money” (very funny, Bob);

-          Mary Jane Peabody was our first woman President in 1995;

-          Christmas Tree sales began in 1972, and over the years the accommodations have improved to the point of a mobile version of the Four Seasons;

-          The BBQ ran from 1955 to 1972 and then again from 1975 to 2010;

-          The TV auction began in 1989, first at the Y and then at Portsmouth High School. Over 16 years it raised $750,000 and generated a lot of on-air personalities.

Mort made a very nice gift of a plaque announcing our meetings. It is set for installation on the front door of the PCC. Janice Woods thanked all who participated in the 90th birthday party, but the biggest thanks goes from our club to Janice for pulling off such a great event!

Spring is in the air and that means it is time for the Golf Tournament. If you would like to help out, see Ben Wheeler.

THE PROGRAM

A Rabbi, a Hindu and a lawyer run out of gas and…ask Dan Hoefle;  he will love to tell it again. Jokes were pretty good this year, and the guest comedian was again a big hit! Tony V (he does not use his last name because his parents are still alive and there is no reason to drag them into this) was our guest. He apologized for his appearance, but said “this is what I look like”. After seeing the Redbull guy jump from outer space to earth, Tony observed that if you have enough Redbull, you can get talked into just about anything. Tony’s wife wanted to know what Tony was going to get for his 89 year old father. Tony said “I don’t know – something WE like? I’m pretty sure he said he wanted a kiak”. Tony wondered why people were surprised at shark attacks at the ocean. “That’s where they live”, Tony said. “It would only be news if someone was attacked by a shark in their hammock”.

Best program of the year. Can’t wait for next year!
